Heidi Weisel

Heidi Weisel has been a BKM volunteer since 2009 when she and Dr Bonyo met at Summa Akron City Hospital. Her first trip to Kenya was in 2010. That trip solidified her as a member of Team BKM for Life.

She met Roy Omandi on this trip and instantly knew she wanted to be his child education sponsor. Roy has since completed high school, a degree in BioMedical Engineering, and is nearing completion of a degree as a Nurse. Roy is dedicated to remaining at the Mama Pilista clinic to return the favor of his sponsorship.

Heidi has returned to Kenya seven times since 2010, bringing thousands of various modes of menstrual management supplies and several hand-cranked sewing machines to the clinic. She became known as the “Menstrual Mentor” and obtained certification from Days for Girls International to train women at the clinic on reproduction and mental health. 

Heidi served as President of BKM from 2019 to 2025. She plans to remain a member of Team BKM moving forward and plans several more trips to Kenya.
